“LIFE AS I KNEW IT”
Ending my writing slump after a long time, though I have been thinking of writing something for many days. However, sometimes it just doesn’t happen. As the topic suggests, what lies further I am not that mature or experienced to comment on life in its entirety. But whatever little I have gathered through the years I have lived, or from the people I have met, I would like to list here.
To begin with, the utmost thing I have learnt is that the only certainty of life is its uncertainty. You might have everything, you might expect anything however, things often turn out differently. But as this happens with everyone, what’s the point of life if everything goes exactly the way we want it to? Just like with movies—we wouldn’t go to watch them if we could already guess the plot in advance. The same applies to life.
Another major thing I have learnt is to not bother too much about people. Neither are they so important, nor are we so important that people will constantly think or talk about us. Therefore, get out of that cocoon and do whatever you want. Give people something worthwhile to talk about.
Having said that, another important lesson is to help people whenever, wherever, and in whatever way you can. Consider yourself lucky if you are able to do that. Don’t be a person who searches for quotes to justify selfishness.
While helping, never forget to enjoy what you already have. If you are reading this, it means you are already among the fortunate few. Cherish what you have, spend it, embrace it. Never postpone anything for tomorrow—it never comes.
You might consider life as a long event, but it is short in the sense that it quickly slips away as you spend years planning, postponing joy, and waiting for the “right time”only to realise that life passed through cracked routines and overworked evenings. In the end, it is not the years you will regret missing, but the moments that were thereand you let them go while preparing for a future that never really arrived. Therefore, it is said: memento mori. Be good, do good. Life is a blessing that may extinguish at any moment.
As you live life, it is certain that you will come across failures. While they should be embraced, never stop striving for victory. Failure can teach many lessons, but all of them become meaningless if you don’t taste victory once in a while.
Another thing is to respect people and nurture relationships not for the sake of gaining something, but for the sake of learning from others, feeding your curiosity, and valuing human connections.
Never stay dull; be filled with happiness. Cherish every single day, no matter what. Joy attracts more joy and helps you get through tough times more easily. Always be grateful. Be thankful for your life and your privileges every day because privileges mean nothing unless you look at the other side of the mirror.
These are some of the lessons I have learnt while making mistakes over the years. I hope they resonate with you.
Lastly, I would like to leave you with a final thought: be a person who gets excited about the changing of seasons, the sound of the ocean, watching a sunset, the smell of rain, and a starry night. It makes life easier and lovelier.
Until next time,
A.
